Counselling assists individuals, couples and families in reframing stories of pain, suffering, and conflict into stories of coping, resiliency and strength.

 It can help one develop insight into his/her thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and reactions by cultivating moment to moment awareness.

This process is beneficial for those wanting to resolve various conflicts/issues and for those seeking greater focus, clarity and calm. Through this reflective process, clients begin to transition through the stages of change.

 

Acknowledging a need for counselling and reaching out for support are generally the first steps in the therapeutic process.

An initial phone screening will help to identify whether counselling is recommended. Referrals to community resources and other health care practitioners are provided, when appropriate. If suitable, an initial assessment is scheduled. This allows for a comprehensive assessment of your needs. At the end of the assessment (consisting of 1-2 scheduled sessions), mutually agreed goals are discussed and a treatment plan developed.
